Rugby union scores in fives, twos and threes, and a match report that gets the kicks wrong is no use to anyone. Match Report GO sets rugby union up on its own terms, with tries, conversions and replacements rather than goals and subs, so the score on the live page and the words in the report are right.

Rugby union in 15s, 10s and 7s

The rugby we support is rugby union, in 15-a-side, 10-a-side and 7-a-side formats. Each has its own pitch drawing and positions for line-ups, from props and hookers through to the fly-half and the back three, with room on the bench for replacements.

Age-grade rugby has its own rules on formats and match lengths. Check with your club, county or governing body for what applies to your age group.

Scoring in points, not goals

The app keeps the score in points using rugby union's values:

Rugby union is played in two halves, with lengths you can set for the age group. The app never ends a half by itself; the scorer taps.

Six buttons for the touchline

The Standard view gives you:

• Try, with the scorer and an optional assist
• Kick: conversion, missed conversion, penalty goal or drop goal
• Penalty: penalty conceded or penalty try
• Card: yellow (sin bin) or red
• Replacement
• Moment, for the tackle or break worth a line in the report

Reports and stats in rugby's language

The match report talks about tries, conversions and replacements, and the score and scorers are checked against the match before anyone sees it. Over the season, season stats build up tries, try assists, points, turnovers won and big tackles, with a page for each player.

Junior rugby

For under-18 teams, junior mode is on automatically. Public pages, reports and graphics use first names only, and no child is named for a card, a penalty conceded, a missed kick or an injury.

Questions coaches ask

Do you support rugby league?

Not today. Match Report GO supports rugby union. You can ask for other sports through suggest a feature.

Can I log a sin bin?

Yes. A yellow card is logged as a sin bin from the Card button, and a red card from the same button.

Does it count points for each player?

Yes. Points, tries and kicks build up for each player over the season, as well as for the team.

Can I use it for 7s tournaments?

Yes. 7-a-side is one of the supported formats. Set the half length for the competition when you set up the match.
